The Man of the Night
Are you the man of the night?!
Oh, civilization of sorrows and joy,
Oh, rebellious longing of the soul.
By your Lord, tell me:
How can I join your devotees?!
Oh, monk in the monastery of my heart,
I am Eve, who loved Adam,
And led him out of his paradise!
All my sins are because of you, Adam.
I loved your wisdom,
Your resolve in all matters.
Oh, you tall and enchanting man,
Is it strange that I fell for you?!
I adored your soul.
What’s my fault in loving
Everything about you?!
I am a woman called Eve,
Who loved a man so complex.
What kind of being are you?!
Don’t look at the women around you,
For I love you more than any of them—
With deeper passion and greater pain!
Oh, you night, oh, dark one,
Let me be a star in your sky,
A bright moon for you.
Take me into you,
For I am my best self with you!
I am Eve. I am Eve—
A gentle and tender creature,
Who loves you, oh tall one.
A being touched by the tenderness
Of your delicate hands.
Oh, man who courses through my veins,
I rest in the depths of your heart,
To the rhythm of its beats.
From the radiance of your love-filled glow,
I draw my strength.
From the brilliance of your enchanting eyes,
All my being melts away!
Let me explore every dictionary of your body,
For I am a woman of fire that burns,
And you, oh deep sea,
Are the only one who can extinguish me.
Let me swim in your depths,
Even though I don’t know how to swim!
Oh, king of bodies,
When I gaze at you,
I find no clear explanation,
Except that I am enchanted by you.
I see you as the long night,
The sunny tomorrow,
And the sky adorned with stars.
Oh, man of the night.
